Placement & Securing Your Fireplace Cover
Every fireplace is different. Find the fit for yours.
Fireplace openings, surrounds, and hearths vary in size, shape, and material. That means the best way to position and secure your Fireside Impressions cover will depend on your particular fireplace.
Mounting hardware, brackets, tape, and other securing materials are not included. You are responsible for choosing a suitable method that keeps your cover stable without damaging your fireplace or surrounding surfaces.
Before you begin
- Make sure the fireplace, surrounding surfaces, and any ashes or embers are completely cool.
- Check that the cover fits the intended location and rests securely.
- Consider the surround material, available support, and whether children or pets could disturb the cover.
- Follow your fireplace manufacturer’s instructions. Do not block required ventilation or alter the fireplace without appropriate guidance.
Never place the cover on a hot or warm fireplace. Always remove it before lighting or operating the fireplace.
Placement options to consider
The following are examples of approaches—not installation instructions or methods suitable for every fireplace.
Resting in front of the opening
Some covers can rest on the hearth directly in front of the fireplace opening. This may work when there is a level, stable surface and the cover cannot easily slide or tip.
Simply placing the cover in front does not necessarily secure it. If it moves easily, use an appropriate retaining method.
Decorative items in front
Some customers place decorative objects in front of their cover as part of their hearth arrangement. However, décor should not be relied on as the sole means of preventing the cover from tipping.
Choose flameless candles only near the cover. Keep burning candles, open flames, and other heat sources away from it.
Small retaining clips or slide-in brackets
Depending on the fireplace’s existing frame or surround, compatible clips or small brackets may help hold the cover in position while allowing it to be removed.
Do not force hardware into fireplace components or attach it to glass, doors, vents, or other parts unless the fireplace manufacturer permits it.
Light-tack or removable tape
A removable adhesive may be an option for some smooth, compatible surfaces. Its suitability depends on the weight of the cover, surface material, and adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
“Removable” does not guarantee damage-free removal. Tape may leave residue, lift paint or finishes, or fail to hold on porous or uneven surfaces. Test an inconspicuous area first and do not rely on tape that cannot securely support the intended use.
Mounted brackets
Some fireplaces may benefit from appropriately installed retaining brackets. The correct bracket, attachment point, and fastener depend on the fireplace and surround.
Before drilling or making permanent changes, consult the fireplace manufacturer or a qualified installer. Keep the cover easy to remove before fireplace use.
Check the placement every time
Before leaving the cover in position, make sure it cannot easily slip, slide, or tip. Recheck any tape, clips, or brackets regularly and stop using a method if it loosens or damages the surface.
The cover is decorative and is not a child or pet safety barrier.
Unsure which method to use?
A qualified fireplace professional or installer can help assess your specific fireplace and identify an appropriate securing method.
For questions about the cover itself, contact Fireside Impressions at 618-418-5320.
A final reminder: Use only on a completely cool, inactive fireplace. Do not use with an active pilot light or obstruct required ventilation. Remove the cover before lighting or operating the fireplace.
